- Can a man after God's own heart commit horrific sins?
If you do not consistently do what you should be doing, you will eventually do what you should not be doing.
- He didn't do what he should have done. He didn't fulfil his mission. He relaxed/took it easy, perhaps rationalizing that he had worked hard enough.
- He overslept and woke up with nothing to do. When you have "nothing to do," you'll end up doing something you shouldn't be doing.
- The lust of his eyes got him. He could have stopped looking at Bathsheba, but then he had "nothing else to do."
- He committed adultery. He "forgot" he was married, or he would stop. But he had "nothing else to do," since he didn't do what he should have done.
- Instead of coming clean, he wanted to conceal his sin.
- He brought Uriah back from fighting a war and got him drunk.
- He was blind to Uriah's loyalty and faithfulness, for he was consumed with hiding his sin.
- He sent Uriah to his death. It was premeditated murder.
