For West Loop UBF, we chose a theme each year over the last few years:
- 2010 was a year of the gospel--the matters of first importance (1 Cor 15:1-4).
- 2011 was a year of grace (Acts 20:24)--the primary experience of the gospel.
- 2012 was a year of sanctification (Phil 2:12-13)--the scary/painful part of the gospel.
- 2013 was a year of considering the whole counsel of God (Acts 20:27, ESV) or the whole will of God (NIV), or the whole plan of God (HCSB), or the whole purpose of God (NASB). This prompted me to study and preach through Revelation, the last book I wanted to study.
- For 2014, it may be a year of remembrance (Dt 5:15; 15:15), as I prepare to preach through Deuteronomy.
- Jan 12: Lesson 1 - Sin (Dt 1:1-46) (Read Dt 1:25-46). Sin brings God's severity.
- Jan 19: Lesson 2: Leadership (Dt 1:9-18) (Read Dt 1:9-18). Delegation and justice.
- Jan 26: Lesson 3: Faith (Dt 2:1-3:29) (Read Dt 3:21-29). Faith leads to obedience.
- Feb 2: Lesson 4a - Obedience (Dt 4:1-40). Obedience comes from love, not law. [Obedience (Dt 4:1-14) (Read Dt 4:1-8). Hear. Listen carefully. Lesson 4b - Idolatry (Dt 4:15-31) (Read Dt 4:15-24). A consuming fire, a jealous God. Lesson 4c - Exclusivity (Dt 4:32-49) (Read Dt 4:32-40). God alone is God.]
- Feb 9: Lesson 5 - Law (Dt 5:1-33) (Read Dt 5:1-22). Grace always precedes the Law.
- Feb 16: Lesson 6 - One (Dt 6:1-25) (Read Dt 6:4-9). Exclusive love (Monotheism or polytheism).
- Feb 23: Lesson 7 Testing - (Dt 7:1-8:20) (Read Dt 8:1-10). God tests us to help us know ourselves.
